Privacy Policy
We built BlacktopCalc to be useful, not to harvest data. Here is exactly what we collect, what we do with it, and what we never do — written in plain English.
The short version
Your calculation inputs never leave your device. We don't store what you type into our calculators. We don't sell data. We don't run advertising trackers. The longer version below explains the specifics — but that's genuinely the whole story.
Who we are
BlacktopCalc operates blacktopcalc.com — a free asphalt and paving calculator toolkit for contractors, engineers, and homeowners. When this policy says "we," "us," or "BlacktopCalc," that's who we mean.
Calculator inputs — what happens to your numbers
Every calculation on this site runs entirely inside your own browser using JavaScript. When you enter a length, a depth, a price, or any other value, that data is processed locally on your device. It is never sent to our servers, never logged, never stored, and never seen by us. Close the tab and it's gone. There is no account system, no history, and no way for us to retrieve what you entered.
Analytics
We may use privacy-focused analytics tools to understand how people use the site in aggregate — which pages are visited most, roughly where visitors come from, and whether the site is working correctly. Any analytics we use is configured to anonymise IP addresses and avoid individual-level tracking. We never share aggregate analytics data with advertisers or data brokers.
Cookies
We do not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or cross-site trackers of any kind. We may store a small preference (like your last-used unit system) in your browser's local storage so the calculator remembers your preference on your next visit. This contains no personally identifiable information and stays on your device.
Advertising
BlacktopCalc may display ads through Google AdSense to help cover the cost of running the site. Google AdSense uses cookies to show relevant ads. You can opt out of personalised advertising at adssettings.google.com. We have no access to the data Google collects for ad personalisation. Contact form
If you send us a message through our contact page, we receive your name, email address, and the content of your message. We use this only to respond. We do not add you to mailing lists, share your details with third parties, or retain messages beyond 12 months. If you want your message deleted sooner, just ask.
Third-party services
We use Google Fonts to load the JetBrains Mono typeface. When a page loads, your browser makes a request to Google's font servers. Google may log this as standard server traffic. We use no social media share buttons, no embedded videos, and no other external services that track individual users on our pages.
Your rights
Because we store almost no personal data, there is very little for you to request. If you submitted a contact form message and want it deleted, reach out through the contact page and we will remove it. If you are in the EU, UK, or California, you have additional data rights under GDPR, UK GDPR, and CCPA respectively. The same process applies — contact us and we will help.
Children
BlacktopCalc is a professional estimation tool not directed at anyone under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has submitted personal information through our contact form, please let us know and we will delete it promptly.
Changes to this policy
If we make meaningful changes to how we handle data, we will update the date at the top of this page. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated policy. We will not silently change anything that affects your privacy in a significant way.
